Sam Robertson
Head Boy
Sam is looking forward to the
opportunity to inspire the College’s
younger students, in the same way he
was motivated to take advantage of all
St Andrew’s had to offer. Sam says the
College has contributed to his growth
as a well-rounded individual thanks to
the wide range of cultural and sports
activities he was able to participate
in. He says it is enthusiasm to try
things and share in experiences that
he hopes to encourage in the younger
students. He is keen to ensure that
all students accept the responsibility
that each has to be involved and make
the most of both the opportunities and
challenges that the College provides
– even when some risk is involved.
Sam intends to study in the Science
or Engineering fields next year.
Holly Carr
Head Girl
Opportunities are what Holly is
most looking forward to this year.
She plans to lead by example and
encourage students to step out of their
comfort zone and be extraordinary.
Working around the theme of
‘Feel the fear, and do it anyway’,
Holly says the team of prefects and
Year 13 students will be encouraging
students to grasp every opportunity
the College offers that comes their
way. She says her community service
trip to Cambodia, and making the
Senior A netball team are the big
highlights from her school career.
Holly is weighing up several options
for next year, including concentrating
on a singing career, progressing her
dream to be in the police, or working
overseas in a volunteer role.
Liam Cosgrove
Deputy Head Boy
Liam hopes to leave the College
having made a significant impression
on the school. He says while he knows
this will be a fun year, he will make
the most of all the opportunities it
offers to create some memorable
moments. Liam says he’ll be
encouraging students to embrace
the school spirit, as well as enjoy
the family culture the College is
renowned for. It’s that camaraderie,
especially at House events and team
sports that has been the highlight of
Liam’s time at St Andrew’s. He was
also part of two overseas trips and
spent time on the Spirit of Adventure
yacht. Liam plans to either study
Veterinary Science, Physiotherapy
or join the army next year.
Sara-Jane Lloyd
Deputy Head Girl
Sara-Jane is excited about the
opportunities and new experiences
that being Deputy Head Girl will
bring. Sara-Jane participates in
a wide range of activities at StAC
including choir, production, Sheilah
Winn, as well as finding time to
swim competitively. Despite her
busy schedule, Sara-Jane is looking
forward to being a role model for
the College’s younger students. She
says she hopes to inspire students
to give everything a go. Looking
back on her time at St Andrew’s,
Sara-Jane says the highlight of her
time here have been the production
camps, and the boarders and prefects
assemblies. Next year, Sara-Jane
heads to the University of Otago in
Dunedin to study Biochemistry.
Sam Lane
Head of Boys' Boarding
Sam is looking forward to the
opportunity to work with the prefect
team to do his bit to keep the College
running smoothly. He values the
outstanding recognition and support
he has had so far, and says he will
work hard to bring in new ideas for
both the boarding, as well as the
wider College community, while
keeping the traditions of the College
alive and well respected. Sam
represented New Zealand playing
hockey for the Junior Blacksticks,
and was named Sportsman of the
Year in 2014. He intends studying
Commerce and Property at a
university still to be decided.
Gabrielle Lee
Head of Girls' Boarding
Gabrielle is excited about the
challenges this year will bring, and
sees them as an opportunity for
growth. Working with Sam as the
Heads of Boarding, Gabrielle is looking
to bring a positive and encouraging
vibe into the boarding houses. She
intends to be an approachable role
model, and make it a fun environment
for everyone to be in. Looking
back over her time at the College,
Gabrielle says the highlights for her
have been her exchange to South
Africa, and the opportunity to play
sport at different levels – hockey to
senior level and social basketball.
She plans on taking a GAP year
before heading to university.
Every year we have a strong cohort of students who step up to serve, inspire and empower their fellow students.
These leadership roles are highly sought after and attract talented and committed young leaders. This year is
no exception. These students selected as Heads of College have shown a desire to be involved in school life,
and take the initiative. They have set the bar high in terms of their own personal standards, so while the jobs
will be many and the expectations high, we are confident they will be true ambassadors for St Andrew’s.
