Description
The course consists of seven NCEA Level 2
achievement standards, which are based upon the
following themes:
AS 91240
Demonstrate geographic understanding of a large
natural environment. (4 credits – external)
AS 91241
Demonstrate geographic understanding of an
urban pattern. (3 credits – internal)
AS 91243
Apply concepts and geographic skills to
demonstrate understanding of a given
environments. (4 credits – external)
AS 91244
Conduct geographic research with guidance.
(5 credits – internal)
AS 91245
Explain aspects of a contemporary geographic
issue. (3 credits – internal)
The first unit above takes approximately 10 weeks.
Each unit has a series of class exercises, practical
work and, when possible, fieldwork.
A four-day field trip will take us to Broken River,mid
Term1. Other one-day field trips occur through the
year.
Assessment
The two standards that are externally assessed
have a written examination at the end of the year.
These two standards together earn 8 credits.
