CERTIFICATE ENDORSEMENT WITH EXCELLENCE AND MERIT

For a certificate to be endorsed with Merit, 50 credits at Merit or Excellence will be required at
the same level, or higher, on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) as the certificate
being awarded.
•
For a certificate to be endorsed with Excellence, 50 credits at Excellence will be required at
the same level or higher, on the NQF as the certificate being awarded.
•
Can credits gained in one year be used to gain endorsement in another year?
Yes. As has always been the case, credits gained in different years, and at different levels,
can count toward NCEA. For endorsement, the credits must be gained at the level of the
certificate being awarded, or above.
COURSE ENDORSEMENT WITH EXCELLENCE OR MERIT
Excellence or merit awards can also be gained in individual subjects when the following
requirements are met:
•
14 or more credits at merit or excellence at the lower level that supports the endorsement
•
At least 3 credits from externally assessed standards and 3 credits from internally assessed
standards
•
Sufficient credits in a single school year.

conferencing and the correspondence school.

You will need to check with your
teacher that the courses offer sufficient university entrance approved standards.
Students who did not achieve NCEA Level 2 are encouraged to complete this by multi-level study
i.e. some Level 1, 2 and 3 subjects.
Standards fulfilling literacy and numeracy requirements will be listed in each subject’s course
booklets issued at the start of the year.
