In order to gain a Level 1 NCEA, 10
credits in literacy must be gained in Level 1
Achievement Standards.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
English is compulsory at this level. Classes
will be banded according to year 10
achievement data
CONTENT
Students will complete a course that covers
most of the following learning areas:
- Creative writing
- Formal writing
- Reading and understanding written texts
- Viewing and understanding film
- Oral presentation skills
- Media presentation
- Wide reading
- Close reading
- Close viewing
HOW IS THE COURSE ASSESSED
Level 1 Achievement Standards of which
some will be assessed internally and some
externally by national examinations.

Level 2 Achievement Standards. There will
be both internal assessment and external
assessment through national examinations.
QUALIFICATION GAINED IF STANDARDS
SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED
Students will gain 18 to 22 credits toward
Level 2 NCEA
University entrance literacy credits
