Level 2 Economics

CONTENT
The course examines the New Zealand
Economy in relation to five major themes.
- Inflation includes the measurement and
effects of price rises.
- Unemployment: studies the labour market
and its influence on the economy
- Growth studies the causes and impact of
growth in the economy
- Trade covers New Zealand’s balance of
payments, tariffs and quotas and their
effect on trade.
- Governmental policies and how they
impact on different areas of the economy.
This course builds on level 1 Economics,
However, it can be started at level 2 and is a
stand alone course.

A combination of internal and external level 2
achievement standards
QUALIFICATION GAINED IF STANDARDS
SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED
Between 16 and 22 credits towards NCEA
level 2 which can be endorsed to merit or

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
NCEA Level 2 Economics is preferred but not
essential. This subject is often picked up at
level 3.
CONTENT
This course covers aspects of micro-
economics, macro-economics and the
government role in the market place.
This includes:
- Market equilibrium
- Market structures and efficiency
- Government interventions
- Marginal analysis and elasticity
- Resource allocation
- Interaction of trade, growth, prices in the
New Zealand economy
This is a useful course for those wishing to go
to University and study Commerce, Law, Arts
and other social sciences.

Up to 24 credits towards NCEA level 3 which
