CONTENT
Classical Studies is the study of two of the
most fascinating civilisations in the history of
mankind: the ancient Greeks and Romans.
This course investigates the mythology, social
life, history, literature and art of Greece and
Rome.
The topics we may study are:
- Cultural connections between ancient
and modern societies
- Greek Tragedy
- Art and Architecture of Pompeii
- Roman Social Life and History
- Athenian Social Life and History
- A significant historical event
HOW IS THE COURSE ASSESSED
8 credits external and 10 credits internal
achievement standards - 18 possible credits.
QUALIFICATION GAINED IF STANDARDS
SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED
NCEA Level 2 Classical Studies (18 credits).

It is an advantage to have completed NCEA
Level 2 Classical Studies, but not a necessity.
At least 12 Credits in Year 12 Classical
Studies or English is strongly recommended.
CONTENT
Classical Studies is the study of two of the

mankind; the ancient Greeks and Romans.
This course investigates the mythology, art,
philosophy, religion, history and literature of
Greece and Rome.
The topics we study are a selection of the
following:
- Alexander the Great
- Roman Art and Architecture
- Religion, philosophy and belief
- Greek Vases
- Aristophanes comedies
- The influence of the classical world on
other cultures
HOW IS THE COURSE ASSESSED
14 credits external and 6 credits internal
achievement standards – 20 possible credits.
QUALIFICATION GAINED IF STANDARDS
SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED
NCEA Level 3 Classical Studies
(20 – 26 credits)
