Barbershop
The StAC Street Boys – Max Earnshaw,
Gus Ellerm, Harry Grigg and Alex
McHugh – sang
You’re Nobody till
Somebody Loves You
at the Barbershop
National Finals in Wellington, and while
unfortunately not placing it was a real
accomplishment to make it to the finals.

the basics.
StAC students selected for Globe trip
Two Year 13 students, William Lu and Frances Campbell,
have been selected to go to The Globe Theatre in London
to work with professional Shakespearean actors and
directors. Next July, Frances and William, along with 24
other students from New Zealand will be immersed in
Shakespeare’s world; attending performances, going
on tours and performing. They were both chosen from a
group of 48 theatrical students that converged on Dunedin
in the second week of the school holidays to form the
National Shakespeare Schools Production cast. This cast
was selected from the 550 students that performed in the
Sheilah Winn Shakespeare National Festival held Queen’s
Birthday Weekend, in Wellington.
William played the role of Hamlet and gave a chilling
and thought-provoking performance. Frances composed
beautiful music for a variety of plays including
Henry V
and
Love’s Labour’s Lost
. Both William and Frances thoroughly
enjoyed the week, citing it as an amazing and unique
experience that all students, if given the opportunity,
should do. As well as being incredibly excited, both William
and Frances feel very honoured to be stepping in the
footsteps of many StAC alumni that have made the trek
over to the birthplace of the greatest writer of all time.
Frances Campbell and William Lu (both Year 13).
Maeve Burns (Year 10) was awarded
Honours Distinction in Grade 5 Tap

Brown (Year 5), Tehya Laws (Year 5),
and Maya Laws (Year 6) were awarded
the grade of ‘Gold with Excellence’ at
this year’s Ballet Academy examination
results.
Chase Jordan (Year 9) competed
at the New Zealand Open Dancing
Championships where he and his dance
partner won five New Zealand titles
after two long days of dancing ballroom,
new vogue and Latin styles.
Debating
The StAC Year 11 debating team of April
Oakley, Harrison Smith and Isabella
Garbett defended their title beating
Cashmere High School to become
the Canterbury Junior champions.
The moot of the evening was “This
house would sacrifice New Zealand’s
outstanding natural landscape in order
to generate clean energy and fight
climate change” and the St Andrew’s
team were affirmative.
Film Fest
There was the usual glamour,
excitement, high fashion and red carpet
as students and staff embraced this
year’s popular and uniquely StAC event,
Film Fest. Add in the celeb interviews
and awards, and this student-led event
was definitely a highlight on the College
calendar. English and Media Studies
teacher Andy McIntosh and Cultural
Captains Sam Hollis and Sophie Wells
were MCs for the evening during which
10 of the best films from the Secondary
School were shown to a near-capacity
audience in the theatre. There were
a large number of entries this year
including laugh-out-loud comedies,
feel-good dramas and thoughtful art-
house films, and places for the final
nominees in each category were hotly
contested.
