Level 1 Accounting

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

None

CONTENT

This course introduces students to the

financial world as it affects individuals,

community organisations and businesses.

Ideal skills if you ever want to run your own

business become a lawyer or accountant,

work in a bank or other financial field.

Skills and topics include:

- Bank reconciliations

- Preparation of financial statements

(including budgets) for businesses and

clubs

- Understanding financial statements

- Processing financial information

- Communication

- Conceptual basis of accounting

HOW THE COURSE IS ASSESSED

NCEA Level 1 Achievement Standards

assessed both internally and externally.

QUALIFICATION GAINED IF STANDARDS

SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED

Up to 21 Credits in NCEA Level 1 which can

be endorsed to merit or excellence.

At least 7 credits can contribute towards

NCEA literacy requirements

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

None, but at least 12 credits from Level One

Accounting would be an advantage.

If Level 1 accounting was not studied, entry is

at the discretion of the head of department

CONTENT

This course builds on Level 1 as well as

looking at Internal Controls to protect

businesses.

The skills and knowledge gained from this

course will be valuable not only to those who

decide to advance their accounting studies,

but also to those whose main interests lie

elsewhere, including owning their own

business.

- Conceptual basis of accounting

- Internal controls protecting business

cash and inventory

- Preparation of financial statements

- Analysing financial statements

- Processing financial information

- Communication

- MYOB computing processing

NCEA Level 2 Achievement Standards

assessed both internally and externally.

QUALIFICATION GAINED IF STANDARDS

SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED

Up to 21 Credits in NCEA Level 2 which can

be endorsed to merit or excellence. 16 Level

2 numeracy credits and 10 literacy credits can

be gained.
