Level 3 Accounting
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
NCEA Level 2 Accounting. At the discretion
of the HOD Commerce, some exceptions may
apply if Level 1 was studied previously.
CONTENT
This course builds on the sole proprietor
knowledge from levels 1 and 2 and covers a
range of new entities.
Topics covered include:
- Accounting for partnerships
- Companies accounting
- Budgeting and decision making
- Manufacturing and job cost accounting.
It is not only a valuable course for those
students considering accountancy as a
career, but also for students whose long term
interests lie in other fields such as law,
computing, education, business management
or ownership or other social sciences.
HOW THE COURSE IS ASSESSED
NCEA Level 3 achievement standards
assessed both internally and externally.
QUALIFICATION GAINED IF STANDARDS
SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED
Up to 21 credits in NCEA Level 3 which can
be endorsed to merit or excellence. 16
numeracy and 9 literacy credits available.
UE reading and writing credits may be
available.
Opportunity to sit scholarship Accounting.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Any Year 13 student may complete this
course. Ideal for those interested in business.
CONTENT
This course will complete the Young
Enterprise Scheme programme where
students have the opportunity to run their own
company in groups by producing and
marketing their idea with guidance from a
business mentor. In addition to learning how
to work with others and negotiate, students
will learn:
- Financial record keeping
- Business planning
- Marketing and selling a product/service.
This course is a hands-on, interactive
enterprise course.
HOW THE COURSE IS ASSESSED
This course is predominantly internally
assessed as well as the opportunity to sit a prior
learnt case study examination in August.
QUALIFICATION GAINED IF STANDARDS
SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED
This course has 10 Level 3 credit equivalents
for course completion. There is the opportunity
for an additional 14 Level 3 credit equivalents if
the examination is passed. If this is met
students receive the Young Enterprise
Certificate qualification.
In addition some Level 3 achievement
standards are available (approximately 18
credits)
WHAT WILL IT COST
Because this course is part of the Young
Enterprise Trust programme there are a range
of costs:
- Examination $25
- ENZT registration $35
Students will also put a small amount of money
into their companies as capital, but should
receive this back at the end of the year plus
hopefully some profit.
