10 Years On and 30 Years On
Friday 17 October saw the return
of the 2000–2004 and 1984–1988
classes for their 10 Years On and
30 Years On reunions. Some of the
registrants attended the Friday
morning assembly, it was great
to hear stories being shared and
comparisons being made between
the two year groups it was clear
that many of the traditions are still
upheld, however the 30 Years On
attendees were quick to point out
the addition of girls made for better
school singing!

30 Years On Reunion Class of 1984–1988. Please visit oldcols.stac.school.nz for a full list of names.
The comparisons continued on
the tour of the College with each
building and classroom serving
multiple purposes of the past
30 years. The Spiro Centre and
Boarding Houses were clear
highlights, and again the 30 Years
On attendees were quick to point out
the addition of the girls’ Boarding
House was another positive.
In the evening the year groups met
in Strowan House for a cocktail
function. It was great to see the
bond within each year group, and for
the staff that attended it was agreed
the chatter heard within Strowan
that night was at its highest!
Thank you to the organisers from
each year group, in particular to
Andy Murray for the 30 Years On
function, for sourcing all of the
contact information for the year
group and rounding everybody up.
First XV Reunion 1989
In 1989 the St Andrew’s College First
XV rugby team enjoyed a successful
trip to Australia playing rugby against
schools in Sydney and Toowoomba.
In the 25 years since, the parents and
boys have met for an annual dinner.
This year was a luncheon at Rossburn
Receptions, Rangiora, attended by 48
parents, players, wives and partners
and 28 children. Most of these children
were now old enough to join in the
dads’ and children’s rugby match,
which was very energetic for the dads.
A current St Andrew’s College student,
Sebastian Prescott, was our piper and
the team’s captain, Guy Wiseman,
made a speech and cut a cake. There
is a very strong friendship and bond
between the three generations now
and we all feel very proud of the
College and opportunities we had to
be involved together in that First XV
year. Some of the third generation are
either current or enrolled pupils.
