Excelling

Culture

Drama

Frances Campbell (Year 13) and William

Lu (Year 13) have been selected to

go to The Globe Theatre in London to

work with professional Shakespearean

actors and directors. They are among a

group of 24 students chosen from 550

students that performed in the Sheilah

Winn Shakespeare National Festival.

Music

Harry Grigg (Year 13) is the 2013–14

co-student leader of the New Zealand

Secondary Schools Choir.

Isaac Shatford (Year 13), Jooyoung

Kim (Year 10), William Muir (Year 11),

Joseph Yoon (Year 10), and Ben Rainey

(Year 12) were selected to play in the

New Zealand Secondary Schools’

Orchestra.

Pipe Band

Josh Smith (Year 13) was selected for

the New Zealand Youth Pipe Band for

2013–2014 for its tour of Canada in 2014

to compete at the North American and

Canadian championships.

United Nations

Daniel Maier-Gant (Year 13) has been

selected to travel to The Hague to

take part in the United Nations Youth

Conference.

Sport

Basketball and Netball

Charlotte Elley (Year 13) played in the

New Zealand U20 Schoolgirls' Basketball

team in Perth and also represented

New Zealand in the International

Schoolgirls Netball Challenge where

they beat Australia.

Bowls and AFL

Cameron Bailey (Year 13) was selected for

the Bowls New Zealand U18 Men’s team

for the annual trans-Tasman contest.

Cameron also represented New Zealand

in January as a member of the New

Zealand Hawks Senior team (for AFL)

and is the youngest player in the team.

Football

Lily Bray (Year 9) was named in the

New Zealand U16 Secondary Schools’

football team.

Gymnastics

Akane Matsumoto (Year 12) competed as

member of the New Zealand Rhythmic

Gymnastic team in Melbourne.

Hockey

Lawrence Darling (Year 12) and Sam Lane

(Year 12) were selected to play in the

Men’s U18 TigerTurf team and were also

chosen for the Junior Black Sticks squad

that travels to Australia in December.

Ice Hockey

Mason Kennedy (Year 12) and Alex Egan

(Year 11) are in the New Zealand U18

ice hockey team and will represent New

Zealand at the International Ice Hockey

Federation World U18 Championship

in March. Luke Hill (Year 10) is in the

New Zealand U16 team that competed

at the Chinese Taipei Youth Invitational

Tournament during September and

October this year.

Polo

James Downes (Year 12) and Sam Martin

(Year 12) played in the New Zealand Youth

Polo team against Australia.

Skiing

Eliza Grigg (Year 13) is a member of the

New Zealand Alpine Ski team.

Snowboarding

Carlos Garcia Knight (Year 13) competed

at the Junior World Championships

in Italy.

Trampolining

Lizzie Stevenson (Year 10) won medals

for New Zealand at the Indo Pacific

Championships in South Africa.

Yachting

Taylor Balogh (Year 12) was selected for

the New Zealand 420 Open team to sail in

the World’s Regatta in Germany.

We are always thrilled to see our

students excel in cultural activities and

sports they are passionate about. They all

put in an extraordinary amount of time

in their pursuit for excellence, so it is

rewarding to see them earn New Zealand

representative colours for their efforts.
