Sam Blakelock
(2007) was awarded
a 2014 DMMF Arts Excellence Award
towards his Master of Music in Jazz
Studies (majoring in Jazz Guitar) at the
City University of New York.
Alice Riley
(2013) recently started
her four year full scholarship to the
University of California in Los Angeles.
Alice will be studying art and design,
along with participating in rowing for
the university.
Claudia Pottinger
(2013) is studying
engineering and has recently been
awarded an accolade from the Dean
of Computer Science for an A plus this
year. Claudia has also recently accepted
an internship with Google for three
months starting in November.
James Rice
(2012) was the regional
finalist for Canterbury in the Eureka
Science Awards.
Sam Ward
(2010) spent some time ski
instructing at Mt Hutt before deciding
to head to the UK and chance his
arm at joining the British Military.
After a rigorous 12 month selection
process, Sam was inducted into the
Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.
During his training at Sandhurst, Sam
was accepted subject to successful
commissioning, into the Royal
Engineers, a Corp. that is nearly 1,000
years old. Clearly Sam did complete the
44 week training course successfully,
and is now a Second Lieutenant in the
Royal Engineers. He is currently at the
RE’s base in Chatham, Kent undergoing
‘second phase training’. From there
he will move to Minley in Surrey where
he will undergo ‘Troop Commander’
training.
Tom Southen
(2009) has been
named the Central South Island
Registered Master Builders Carters
2014 Apprentice of the Year. Tom,
who is employed by Farmbuild in
Christchurch and trained through the
BCITO, impressed judges who say he
presented an outstanding project that
comprehensively showed his broad
knowledge and ability in construction.

Robyn Entwistle
(2006), a graduate of
Otago University, has been selected
for a two month internship in the
prestigious Peggy Guggenheim
Museum in Venice.
Jonathan Scragg
(1996) is a partner at
Duncan Cotterill and has been elected
as president of the New Zealand
Insurance Law Association. Jonathan
leads Duncan Cotterill’s Wellington
Litigation and Dispute Resolution team.
Nicholas Mavromatis
(1995) is the
Marketing Manager at Greystone
Vineyard in the Waipara Valley,
who recently won the producer-
manufacturer Champion Canterbury
Award for 2014, small business
category.

Ken Powe
(1993) represented NZ in
Tenpin Bowling in Townsville Australia,
and qualified in the Classic Cup
Masters in 2013. He came third overall
with a bronze medal. Ken has been
bowling for a number of years starting
in Christchurch and then continuing
in Wellington where he now lives.
Ken has been in the NZ Squad for the
2011–2013 round.
Sean Murray
(2012) has recently been
named in the New Zealand U21 Men’s
Touch Rugby team.
