Old Collegians

Message

from the

Spring has been

reunion season for

Old Collegians, with

a number of reunions

being held at the

College during the

past two months.

The reunions have

comprised a wide

span of year groups, ranging from the

10 Years On Reunion who were 7th

Form / Year 13 as recently as 2004 to

the 65 Years On group who had their

final year at the College in 1949.

The school experiences of each of these

year groups at the College would often be

unrecognisable to the others. However, it is clear

from all the reunions I’ve attended recently that

Old Collegians greatly value their connection

with the College and fondly recall the mischief

made during their time at the College, whatever

the era they attended St Andrew’s. It’s also

clear that the friendships made in their school

days have more than stood the test of time.

By the time this edition is published our next wave

of Old Collegians will have joined the ranks. On

behalf of the Association, I welcome all the leavers

of 2014 as Old Collegians and look forward to

seeing many of you at the young leavers’ function

and regional functions the Association has planned

in 2015. Your efforts during 2014 have helped

keep the College in great heart and made for

enjoyable experiences for those Old Collegians

returning for assemblies and other College events.

During 2014 the College moved to an online

booking system known as Patron Base, for

events held through the College. The Association

will begin using Patron Base for Old Collegians

events during 2015, which will make registering

for reunions, the annual dinner and other events

much easier for all involved. For those who aren’t

able to access Patron Base, you will still be able

to sign up to events by contacting Kate Baker.

On behalf of the Association, I thank all the Old

Collegians who attended events during the year

or who continue to be involved with the College

through the Association. I wish all Old Collegians

a wonderful holiday season with family and

friends, and look forward to catching up in 2015.

Upcoming

Golf Tournament

This year’s Old Collegians golf tournament was held at the

Methven Golf Club on Friday 26 September.

A small but quality field competed for the ‘John Hampton’ Trophy

and the ‘W.A.C MacDonald’ Cup. The weather was fine but cool

and the Methven Golf Course was in pristine condition for the

club championships that were scheduled for the following day.

An outstanding performance by Jack Allan saw him collect

both the major prizes, a rare feat indeed. Jack shot a smart 75

off the stick along with 44 stableford points. Paul McEwan was

runner-up with 76 for the J Hampton Trophy. James Anderson

42, Andrew Lake 38, Don Maginness, Andy Innes and Stuart

Anderson 37. From this event we have selected the top place-

getters to represent StAC at this year’s Strowan Rosebowl

Tournament. The plan is to return to Methven next year as there

is good support for the event from the Mid-Canterbury area.
