OurVision
The new St Andrew’s College
Chapel will be at the heart of the
College community - a place of
worship, celebration, inspiration
and gathering throughout our
lives. The Chapel will embody
the values, history, traditions
and future aspirations of the
College. It will commemorate
the men and women whose
lives were given in service, to
community and to country. A
place of contemplative beauty,
the Chapel and its garden will be
a serene island that anchors the
College community. A window
to St Andrew’s College, the
Chapel will welcome members
of the College and extended
community to a school founded
on Truth, Excellence and
Faith. While preserving all the
important aspects of our past,
our new Chapel will look to the
future and provide inspiration
and opportunity for those yet
to come.
This vision is about to be realised as
work is planned to start on the new
Chapel site in early 2015. The Chapel
is at the heart of the College and is a
place that many students will return
to throughout their lives for those
milestone family events. For more than
50 years the Memorial Chapel brought
our community together and the new
Chapel will continue this tradition into
the College’s second century.
Ground improvement will begin on the
Chapel site early in 2015 in preparation
for construction. The escalating cost
of building in Christchurch and tight
contracting timeframes means that the
build must start before all fundraising
has been completed. With everything
going to plan the new Chapel will be
completed in mid-2016. The College
hopes to host an official ‘turning of the
sod’ ceremony at the 2015 Founders’
Day celebrations.
User groups have continued to meet
with the architects to ensure that areas
of speciality are carefully thought about
and planned for. The provision for a
grand piano to be permanently in the
Chapel is something that the Music
Department is very pleased about, and
