NOTE:
In order to gain Level 1 NCEA,
8 credits in literacy must be gained in Level 1
Achievement Standards.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
English is compulsory at this level. Classes
will be banded according to year 10
achievement data and other teacher
recommendations
CONTENT
Students will complete a course that covers a
selection of the following learning areas:
- Creative writing
- Formal writing
- Reading and understanding written texts
- Viewing and understanding film
- Oral presentation skills
- Media presentation
- Personal reading
- Close reading
- Close viewing
HOW THE COURSE IS ASSESSED
Level 1 Achievement Standards of which
some will be assessed internally and some
externally by national examinations.
QUALIFICATION GAINED IF STANDARDS
SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED

To gain University Entrance students
must attain 10 literacy credits (5 in reading
and 5 in writing). These can be achieved
across a range of subjects. Some students
may need two years to achieve this (year 12
and 13)

internal assessment and external
assessment through national examinations.
