Level 1 Food and Nutrition

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Year 10 Food and Nutrition option is

recommended.

CONTENT

Topics covered include:

- Preparing of food successfully and safely

at a personal level and as a shared

responsibility.

- Food selection and preparation to develop

food for individuals and families that

reflect enhancing attitudes towards

nutrition.

- Cultural significance of food and rituals

associated with food and nutrition, and

how cultural practices influence eating

patterns in New Zealand

- Demonstrate an understanding of how

packaging information influences

individual’s food choices and well-being.

HOW THE COURSE IS ASSESSED

15 credits internally assessed at NCEA

Level 1

4 credits externally assessed at NCEA Level 1

Literacy credits can be gained from

Achievement Standards 90958, 90959 and

90961

QUALIFICATION GAINED IF STANDARDS

SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED

19 credits at NCEA Level 1.

WHAT WILL IT COST

$100. All resources are provided for both

practical sessions each week except for

internal practical assessments, where

students are required to provide ingredients.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Year 11 Food and Nutrition is recommended.

CONTENT

Topics covered include :

- Evaluate sustainable food related practices.

- Examine beliefs, attitudes and practices

related to specific nutritional issues for

families in New Zealand.

- Look at the relationship between well-being,

food choices and determinants of health

- Analyse issues related to the provision of

food for people with specific food needs.

The course will also offer

Level 2 Hospitality Unit Standard: Knife safety

Level 2 Early Childhood Education Unit

Standard: Tots and Toddlers

HOW THE COURSE IS ASSESSED

20 credits internally assessed at NCEA

Level 2.

4 credits externally assessed at NCEA Level

2.

Literacy credits can be gained from the

following Achievement Standards:

91299, 91300, 91301 and 91302

QUALIFICATION GAINED IF STANDARDS

SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED

24 credits at NCEA Level 2
