Netball

At the South Island Secondary

Schools’ Championships in

Invercargill, the Senior A girls

started off with a 48–28 win

against Verdon College. They

then beat James Hargest College

54–26, Lincoln High School 39–25,

Christchurch Girls’ High School

38–22, Wakatipu High School

35–21 and lost to South Otago High

School 34–19. In the play-offs, the

team beat Marlborough Girls’ High

School 29–23 and Cashmere High

School 37–30 to place fifth overall.

This is our highest ever finish at this

tournament and the team qualified

for the National Secondary Schools’

Tournament.

Rugby

At the 26th Presbyterian Schools’

Quadrangular Tournament in

Auckland, the First XV beat a strong

Lindisfarne College team 14–3 on the

first day and then lost 86–5 to a very

impressive Saint Kentigern College

team in the final of the tournament.

The U15 team had impressive wins in

pool play against Buller High School

59–21, Dunstan High School 50–0,

Verdon College 76–7 and Menzies

College 45–0 at the South Island

Schools’ Co-educational Tournament.

The team did exceedingly well to place

in the top four after narrowly losing

17–12 in the semi-final against South

Otago High School.

bronze medals at the New Zealand Secondary

Schools’ Swimming Championships.

Swimming

George Adam (Year 9), Alex Boyle

(Year 11), Quinton Hurley (Year 9),

Blair Masters (Year 12), Ben Smith

(Year 9) and Timothy Batchelor

(Year 10) competed at the New Zealand

Secondary Schools’ Swimming

Championships in Wellington.

George won six medals - five silver

and a bronze in his events, while Ben

Smith took home gold for the U13

Boys 100m (LC) butterfly and silver for

the U14 Boys 200m freestyle. Quinton

Hurley won two bronze medals for the

Boys 13 Years 400m freestyle (SC) and

1500m freestyle (SC).
