ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
None
CONTENT
- Sports science: basic anatomy and
exercise physiology, and biomechanics.
- Sport education and development of
interpersonal skills through volleyball and
hip hop.
- Participation in physical activities and
factors that influence participation. eg.
korfball, speedminton, handball.
- Participate in practical activities: aquathon
and football.
- Safety in outdoor education activities eg.
ropes course, skateboarding.
HOW IS THE COURSE ASSESSED
A combination of theory and practical
assessments working towards achievement
standards, all of which are internally assessed
QUALIFICATION GAINED IF STANDARDS
SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED
Up to 20 credits in NCEA Level 1

Satisfactory results in NCEA Level 1 Physical
Education and with HOD approval.
CONTENT
- Demonstrate understanding of how and
why biophysical principles relate to the
learning of physical skills eg. tennis
- Demonstrate understanding of the
application of biophysical principles to
training for physical activity (fitness
activities).
- Perform a physical activity in an applied
setting eg. netball, ripper rugby, rock
climbing, touch, tennis
- Examine the significance for self, others
and society of a sporting event, a physical
activity, or a festival.
- Evaluate leadership strategies that
contribute to the effective functioning of a
group – Year 10 camp leadership
- First aid course – unit standards
