Level 1 Mathematics
NOTE
: In order to gain Level 1 NCEA, 10
credits in numeracy must be gained in Level 1
Achievement Standards. Therefore it is a
priority of this school that all students at Year
11 will meet this standard. Targeted students
may be invited to complete a numeracy
course which will be designed to maximise
their opportunity to gain the numeracy
requirements. The remainder will be offered a
course based on achievement standards.
Note: To gain university entrance students
must attain 10 Level 1 credits in mathematics
as specified in the introduction.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Mathematics is a compulsory course at Year 11.
CONTENT
The course will enhance basic skills of
numeracy.
HOW THE COURSE IS ASSESSED
There are 13 Level 1 achievement standards
available and courses will be designed to give
students the maximum opportunities for
success. These courses may have up to 3
external achievement standards with the
balance of the course made up of up to 5
internal achievement standards.
QUALIFICATION GAINED IF STANDARDS
SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED
Level 1 achievement standards, up to 20
credits.
The Numeracy requirement for the award of
Level 1 NCEA will be met.

Approximately $15 for a workbook
Approximately $100 for a graphics calculator

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Level 2 Mathematics
Entry will require 14 or more credits in Level 1
Mathematics achievement standards,
including credits in 1.2 (Algebraic Methods),
1.3 or 1.4 (Graphing) and 1.1 (Number). It is
recommended that at least one of these be at
merit level or above.
CONTENT
This course is a theoretical algebraic
approach to pure mathematics, statistics and
probability.
HOW THE COURSE IS ASSESSED
There are 14 Level 2 achievement standards
available. The course may have up to 3
external achievement standards with the
balance of the course made up of up to 3
internal achievement standards
QUALIFICATION GAINED IF STANDARDS
SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED
Level 2 achievement standards, up to 19
credits.
