Winter

Twelve teams took part in Winter

Tournament Week this year with some

excellent medal winning performances.

Basketball

At the South Island Secondary

School championships in Nelson, the

Senior A boys beat Linwood College

81–35 to reach the quarter-final

against Nayland College, but whom

they lost to 99–81. The team then beat

Papanui High School 95–85 before

losing to King’s College to finish sixth

overall, but qualifying for the National

Championships for the first time in a

number of years.

The Senior A girls played at the

Regional Tournament in Christchurch

where they finished runner-up after

losing 34–30 in the final against

Hillmorton High School/Catholic

Cathedral College.

Duathlon

Saxon Morgan (Year 9) finished

third in the U14 grade at the

New Zealand Secondary Schools’

Duathlon Championships in Taupo.

Football

The First XI boys played in the Malcolm

Cowie Tournament in Auckland where

they were unbeaten to quarter-final

stage. In the quarter-final the boys lost

3–0 to a strong King’s College team but

played well and created a number of

good chances. The team lost the next

game on penalties 5–4 after drawing

2–2 with Mount Roskill. The boys won

the last game 2–1 against Albany to

place seventh overall.

The First XI girls played in Dunedin

where they were unbeaten in pool

play but lost their quarter-final 3–0

to Southland Girls’ High School who

went on to win the tournament. The

St Andrew’s girls then beat Papanui

High School 2–0 and Wakatipu High

School 5–1 to finish fifth.

Hockey

At the National Rankin Cup in

Palmerston North, the First XI boys

were unbeaten in pool play but lost 3–0

to Wairarapa College in the quarter-

final. The boys lost 4–0 to Westlake

Boys’ High School and 5–4 to St Paul’s

Collegiate School to place eighth

overall.

The First XI girls played in the

Audrey Timlin Tournament in Timaru

where they had several excellent

wins. In the semi-final the girls drew

2–2 with Waimea College and then

won 4–2 on strokes.

The team played Columba College

in the final but lost narrowly 3–2.

The team will now compete in the

elite Federation Cup and Marie

Fry Trophy.

At the Tanner Cup in Hamilton, the

U15 boys finished eighth overall

in the highly competitive U15

tournament and gained a great

deal from the experience.

Ice Hockey

At the South Island Secondary

Schools’ Championships in

Dunedin, the College ice hockey

team had some pleasing results

notably against John McGlashan

College to place third overall at the

tournament.
